Classic Motor Show Returns to Wentworth Woodhouse

Gemini Events returns to the fine surroundings of Wentworth Woodhouse in Rotherham on Sunday 8th September for the Classic Motor Show. Back by popular demand, the lawns in front of the impressive country house will be the setting for a display of around 400 classic vehicles.

The venue also boasts a fascinating link to the British motor industry. Herbert Austin spent his childhood growing up there as his father was Farm Bailiff to Earl Fitzwilliam, and in commemoration a special award will be presented to the best Austin of the show. He would certainly be pleased with the models on display, including the likes of a 7 Ruby, A30, and A55 Cambridge.

There are also plenty of other British classics to enjoy, including a rally specification 1968 Mini Cooper and a period-supercharged MGA, and visitors won’t want to miss a rather special 1934 Lagonda 3-litre Saloon. It was once owned by female racing driver, Kay Petre, who held a speed record at Brooklands as well as being a works Austin racer.

Also sure to garner plenty of interest is the 1971 Simca 1204 Special that has been fully restored by owner, Stephen Wood. It is one of just three examples in the UK. 2019 also marks the 50th anniversary of the iconic Ford Capri with the show featuring a fine selection including a turbocharged 280 model. And representing the more exotic end of the classic car spectrum are a number of models from the likes of Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Porsche.

For those that enjoy two-wheelers, a Lambretta that appeared in television drama, ‘This is England 1986’, will be on display. Prefer a classic commercial vehicle? Then the sole remaining Scammell 100-ton tractor unit is a real treat for those that like their old vehicles on a bigger scale. Having spent some years in the Leyland Museum and resplendent in company livery, it is being brought to the show by Maurice Hudson Senior from Hudsons of Dudley.

A number of car clubs will also be in attendance including the Barnsley Branch of the Morris Minor Owners Club, the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club, Metropolitan Owners Club, and Autobahnstormers. They are sure to bring along a mouth-watering selection of classics, and with the 50th anniversary of the Ford Capri, it’s a great chance to have a chat with members of the Capri Club International Mansfield Notts. Branch.

Alongside a wealth of trade stalls, there are plenty of great activities throughout the day, including parades in the live action arena, Pride of Ownership awards, and the famous ‘Decibel Duel’ that will find the loudest car at the show. And when the engines are quiet visitors can relax and enjoy music from West Midlands trio, The Bluebird Belles.
