Biggest crowd and more cars than ever at the 2019 Classic & Retro Show

Gemini Events’ Classic and Retro Show proved to be the biggest and best ever with more cars and visitors than ever before. Around 2,500 enthusiasts packed into Essex’s The Lawn to enjoy the motoring displays and live music in the sunshine.

Sponsored by ClassicLine Insurance, the show field quickly filled with 350 classic and vintage cars, with visitors bringing out some great additions on the day to join those who had pre-booked their spot.The VIP parking in front of the house was also filled to capacity with some great supercars creating a stir amongst the visitors including Ferraris, a Lamborghini and two McLarens.

Show organiser Stephen Smith of Gemini Events, said: “It was another record year in terms of exhibitors, display vehicles and visitors. We are already looking at how to expand the show field for 2020.”

A raft of awards were presented on the day including Tony Read’s 1933 Austin PD Tourer for Best Pre-War Car, George Spence’s 1960 Ford Zephyr Mk2 for Best Modified / Custom Car, Peter Baker’s 1973 Triumph Stag for Best Post-War Car, and Hugh Skelton’s Ford Mustang for Best American Car. The overall winner for Best in Show was Charles Green’s 1949 Triumph Roadster.

Owner of The Lawn David Keddie added: “There was a great buzz to the day with some fabulous feedback and so many smiling faces. The Gemini team put together a great event and worked hard to ensure the day ran smoothly.”

Clubs on display included the Southend and District Classic Car Club, Granada 1234 Club, Ford Sidevalve Owners Club, TR Register, Lotus Drivers Club, Mini Life, S2KUK – UK S2000 Owners Club, and the Island Rodders will all be displaying their members’ finest vehicles.

Philip Winter, founding member of the Autojumble Association, said: “What a lovely well organised show with lots of customers and some beautiful cars on display, we’ll be back!”

There was also a brilliant line-up of live musical acts to keep the retro vibe going including The Candy Girls, Smileys Showband, and Lianna Haynes, with Mr Dickie Bows providing free dance lessons and demonstrations.
