Fathers Classic Day out returns to Trentham Gardens

Gemini Events’ Father’s Classic Day Out returns to the stunning Trentham Gardens on Sunday 16th June with around 1,000 vehicles on display.

Sponsored by ClassicLine Insurance, over 60 car clubs will be displaying members’ vehicles spanning one hundred years of motoring, including a large presence from Ikon Bodyz Car Club, Oval Owners, Str33t Wiz3 and Stoke on Trent Classic Car Club, all bringing over 30 cars each.

There will also be a fantastic showcase from four regions of the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club, along with Club Audi, Club Lotus and the Mercedes Benz Club. Ford, Triumph, MG, Vauxhall and Volvo are also represented in the marque specific clubs while multi-marque clubs join the fun from as far as Wigan to the West Midlands.

The members of Cruise Staffs are bringing some famous faces with them in the form of The A Team van from the iconic 80s TV show, the ‘General Lee’ from The Dukes of Hazard, and Lightening McQueen from the Pixar movie Cars.

As well as the clubs, there are as ever a fantastic collection of vehicles from private individuals. Angela James displays her original low-mileage Austin Westminster A104VP, 500 built but only a few remain, while Robert Ridley will be attending in his Volvo 1800s, the same model driven by the late Sir Roger Moore in the tv show The Saint.

Jonathan Coles could bring a few visitors with him as he drives his Leyland National 2 bus into the show. The bus was new to Midland Red in 1980 at its Stafford garage, and was mainly used on the 825 service running between Stafford and Lichfield, and Little Haywood due to a low bridge. It was sold on in the 1990s and worked at various operators including North Western, Vanguard Coaches, Stagecoach. It is now owned by Jonathon Coles and Mark Owen for preservation.

The ‘Car Catwalk’ returns, running throughout the afternoon before the awards are presented to the Pride of Ownership and Concours winners as well as the Car of the Show, voted by the public.

One to watch in the Pride of Ownership is Martin Renshaw’s Land Rover Series One 80 inch which he bought when he was just 17 years old as an unfinished restoration.

Martin explains: “When I started to restore it, I found that it needed to be took back to the bare chassis as the work the previous owner had done was not to a high enough standard. They had cut corners when restoring so it needed to be all done all over again. It has taken me a long four years to get the Land Rover as it is now, and it is my pride and joy.”

The gorgeous Italian Gardens overlooking the lake makes a fantastic visitor attraction, as well as the Garden Centre and shops outside the entrance. There’s also an adventure playground for children making it a great day out for the whole family.

Gates open at 10am until 4pm. Admission starts from £12 for adults, £9 for children (4-16 years) when booked in advance, with ticket prices including entry into the Gardens, Adventure Playground, and Shopping Village. Tickets also available on the gate. Free parking for all visitors.
