New Easter Motorfest Venue wins over Vistors and Traders

The relocated Easter Midlands Motorfest proved to be a winner with both visitors and traders. Having moved to Newport’s stunning Chetwynd Deer Park, around 1,500 enthusiasts came to see over 800 vehicles on display over the two-days.

Event Director Stephen Smith said: “We are thrilled with the response to our first event of the season. Things have been quite fraught putting this show together, given the ungentlemanly conduct of our previous venue, so to get such positive feedback is quite overwhelming. Visitors loved their new surroundings, the quality of stalls and traders as well as the excellent entertainment provided for all the family.

“Even the traders have praised the layout, the quality of visitors and displays. We even had traders who had not booked in with us turning up because they weren’t doing good business at other local events.

“Of course being a new location, some people had trouble finding us, especially when all our signage was stolen. But we now have a good foundation to build Motorfest at its new home.”

One of the hottest Easter Bank Holidays in years, the beautiful open park was a sun trap with many taking the opportunity to sunbathe and enjoy a picnic.

Barry Meldrum, from the Oval Owners Club won Best in Show on Sunday, with his 1980 Ford RS2000, while on Monday the winner was Graham Lomas with his 1968 Triumph Vitesse. Both received a trophy and a years free insurance from event sponsors ClassicLine.

Around 40 motoring clubs were in attendance bringing a fantastic mix of marques ranging from the 1920s through to modern classics and those that are bound to be classics in the future such as the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport Collector Edition, owned by Colin Bailey.

Sadly, the decibel duel had to be cancelled due to noise restrictions, but that didn’t stop the fun as there was plenty of free family entertainment as well as live music from The Quik Beats and The Delray Rockets.
